That single observation underlies the Maya four world-directions with their colours and bearers, and the Mesopotamian “four quarters” kingship title, without needing a common source. The Four Noble Truths and the four rivers of Eden are a different kind of attestation — a doctrinal count and a narrative detail, not an astronomical one — and the dataset does not support folding them into the same explanation as the direction-schemes.
